How are students placed in classes?
This week is that grade level teachers work together to place students, but the work for next year's classes started a few months ago. A parent feedback survey was shared during conferences and is still live on our school website (under Resources). Special educators began grouping students who receive like services and have similar learning goals. Band teachers started getting feedback from families about their child's music choice. This week teachers take the next step which is to begin creating blind class lists. Teachers do their best to create balanced classes, to make sure children have a familiar face from their current class and to take parent input into their decision making.
If you would still like to share your input, please check out our website.

Third graders are busy learning and mastering fractions on a number line, understand fractional parts, improper fractions, comparing fractions and finding equivalent fractions.
Students are also continuing to work on their writing pieces. Third graders focus on opinion writing, informational writing, realistic fiction writing and fantasy writing.
Lastly, students are working on reading lots of books. Students are tasked with reading many different genres and different text sets. A text set could be books written by same author, or books that share a common theme or topic.
